Why Your DNS Server Matters
Every time you open a website, your device asks a DNS server to translate the domain name into an IP address. That lookup happens before the page even starts loading. A slow or overloaded resolver adds delay to everything you do online, while a fast, well-run resolver makes browsing feel snappier. Cloudflare — 1.1.1.1
Cloudflare's resolver is consistently ranked the fastest public DNS globally, with a huge network of data centres that keeps latency low almost everywhere, including the Gulf region. Its privacy policy is among the strictest: it does not log your IP address and purges query logs within 24 hours, independently audited. A malware-blocking variant is available at 1.1.1.2, and a family-filtering variant at 1.1.1.3.
Google Public DNS — 8.8.8.8
Google's 8.8.8.8 is the most widely used public resolver and is extremely reliable, with excellent uptime and global reach. It is a touch behind Cloudflare on privacy — Google retains some query data for analytics — but it remains a solid, trustworthy default that rarely goes down.
Quad9 — 9.9.9.9
Run by a Swiss non-profit, Quad9 focuses on security: it blocks access to domains known to host malware, phishing, and botnet command servers using multiple threat-intelligence feeds. It does not collect personal data. If you want protection against malicious sites at the DNS level with no software to install, Quad9 is the pick.
OpenDNS — 208.67.222.222
Owned by Cisco, OpenDNS is popular in businesses and homes that want content filtering. Its free FamilyShield service (208.67.123.123) blocks adult content automatically, and a free account lets you customise categories. It is reliable, though typically not quite as fast as Cloudflare.
NextDNS and CleanBrowsing
NextDNS offers a highly customisable resolver with your own blocklists, analytics, and parental controls, plus DoH/DoT — great for power users. CleanBrowsing is a simple, family-friendly filtering resolver that's a good alternative to OpenDNS FamilyShield.
